Night Hike at Curi Cancha Reserve
Located about 5 minutes away from Santa Elena downtown, Curi Cancha offers one of the most unique experience on a night hike. Curi-Cancha Reserve is located in the Arenal-Tempisque conservation area in the heart of Monteverde. Protecting 83 hectares (205 acres) of 50% virgin forest, 45% secondary forest, and 5% of open pasture. The altitude at this Reserve ranges from 1450 meters to 1615 meters with about 40% Lower montane wet forest and about 60% Premontane wet forest. Seven kilometers of beautiful, natural trails allow visitors to explore the flora and fauna of the tropical cloud forest.
Due to the location of this conservation area they offer a more private, and far from the noise and cars experience. Your guide will have an eagle-eye to spot different wildlife along the way such as sleeping birds, snakes, spiders like tarantulas, insects, and on some nights you are able to see many mammals like kinkajous, sloths, olingos and many more animals. You will be given a flashlight to look for all animals as well. Ask your guide about any animal you see along the way, they will be happy to answer any questions and take pictures for you.
